Abstract: In recent years a bioinformatics bottleneck has emerged as one of the main challenges in analyzing high-throughput biology data, especially massive parallel sequencing data (also know as next-generation sequencing data). Even after the data is analyzed, further analysis is often needed to interpret the results. A view is provided of the type of bioinformatics expertise needed to lead a group to address this bottleneck and other bioinformatics problems. A vision is then given of a support program which takes existing expertise and infrastructure into account; assesses current needs and gaps in support; forecasts needs based on research goals; and, as soon as possible, begins staffing for data analysis. |
