Experience a mixture of coding, acoustics, and music in this one-of-a-kind week-long camp designed for middle and high schoolers. Supported by the LSU Center for Computation & Technology as part of their Cultural Computing focus, this course incorporates computer programing and musical performance.
Learn to use javascript to live code music in a web browser. Make your own web audio instruments in Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Music topics on composition, form, and notation will be covered as groups form and hone musical performances. Final instruments, live coding pieces will be showcased on a concert at the conclusion of the week. Participants will learn how to publish their instruments and performances through the web.
Who:
This is a beginner course in programming and music, though basic computer skills are required. Those with prior programming experience will still find many topics to learn and opportunities to apply their newly acquired DSP knowledge to making music. High school students (grades 9-12) are well prepared. Middle School students (grades 6-8) who have a little computer experience will be considered for the program as well. If the student has taken any of the CCT Summer courses they will be well prepared and encouraged to take this course.
Cost: $130.00 pp. Participants must provide their own transportation and lunches. Bring coins fo
r snack/coke machines. Refrigerator and microwave can be made available if needed. Please mark lunches clearly with students name.

Taught by: Dr. Jesse Allison, LSU assistant professor of experimental music & digital media. Dr. Allison is a leader in sonic art technology, thought, and practice. As part of the Cultural Computing focus of the Center for Computation & Technology, he performs research into ways that technology can expand what is possible in the sonic arts. Prior to coming to LSU, he helped to found the Institute for Digital Intermedia Art at Ball State University and Electrotap, an innovative media arts firm.
