The LSU Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) will host the Computer Math Summer Camp for boys and girls entering grade eight (8th) in the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. This is a new summer camp offering that highlights the strong connections between mathematics and programming.
The camp activities will reinforce the mathematics children already know by presenting them in the context of computing. Campers will:
- Be introduced to state of the art functional programming.
- Solve mathematical problems by implementing them in a computer.
- Practice how to communicate mathematical ideas in a precise language.
- Learn how to use software for doing algebra and geometry on a computer.
- Teach mathematics to computers that "forgot" them.
Who: For incoming 8th grade students in the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. No computer knowledge required - this is a beginner level camp.
Date/Times of the Camp: Monday - Friday, July 28-August 1, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Location: Room #1008B, Digital Media Center, LSU Campus
Registration: $25 registration fee for students.
