The Red Stick International Animation Festival has selected the finalists for its seven “Best of the Fest” film competition categories from among the record 437 films submitted this year.

The festival accepted entries through Aug. 6, and first opened screenings through its public film jury Aug. 15-Sept. 15, which gave people an opportunity to view and rate entries, serving as the festival’s first-round judges. Red Stick is the only film festival that offers the public this opportunity. During the public film jury, more than 100 judges viewed films and recommended more than five hours of top-rated material.

The films that received the highest scores from the first-round jury underwent further review from the festival staff and a panel of animation professionals to determine the finalists.

The Sci-An Awards are currently soliciting entries for scientifically accurate 2D and 3D animation created to enhance the understanding of science.

Red Stick and the 2010 Sci-An Awards will jointly present these awards in categories of Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences, with a special Achievement Award to an organization that advances and exemplifies the field of scientific animation.

The deadline for submissions to the 2010 Sci-An Awards is Oc. 15. To receive an entry form, send an e-mail to entryform@sci-an-awards.com
