Baton Rouge – Red Stick International Animation Festival, the largest event of its kind in the United States, announces a Filmmakers Fund to help people who submitted films to the Best of the Fest competition attend the festival in Baton Rouge Nov. 10-13, 2010.
This year, Red Stick received a record 437 films for Best of the Fest, in which participants were able to submit work in seven categories. These films will be screened for audiences throughout the festival. Red Stick will announce and present the awards for the top film in each category on site during the festival, and this year, Red Stick will present a Gold Baton, or Baton D’Or, award for the top entry overall.
Through the Filmmakers Fund, anyone who submitted a film to the 2010 Best of the Fest competition and would like to attend the festival to present the film and participate in a filmmakers’ panel can apply for a stipend to cover up to half of their travel costs.
“We are encouraged to see such great participation in our film competition, and since many of the people who submit entries are students or amateurs who are just getting into the digital media field, we wanted to provide assistance for them to attend the festival, where they can network with professionals and receive valuable feedback on their work,” said Red Stick International Animation Festival Director Stacey Simmons, Ph.D.
People who wish to apply for a stipend from Red Stick’s Filmmakers Fund should send an e-mail with “Filmmakers Fund” as the subject line to rsiaf@cct.lsu.edu providing name, contact information, title of submitted film(s), and a brief statement about why attending Red Stick would be beneficial and/or would further professional or academic goals. The application deadline is Friday, October 1, 2010.
The festival has a limited number of stipend awards available, and will select recipients based on this information. People who have been selected for a Filmmakers Fund stipend will be notified by Wednesday, October 20, 2010.
The Red Stick festival is sponsored by LSU in partnership with the East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President’s Office, Baton Rouge Area Chamber, The Louisiana Technology Park, and Baton Rouge Area Digital Industries Consortium.
