Studies show that the explosion of mobile applications has contributed approximately 500,000 jobs to the U.S. job market.  Furthermore, the "app economy" is expected to continue rising for many years to come, becoming one of the fastest growing industries.  Louisiana is in a prime position to capitalize on this burgeoning app economy through its Digital Media Incentives, and LSU is primed to help.

In an effort to enable Louisiana professionals and students to engage in the app arena, the LSU Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) will offer iOS App Training this summer. Two sessions will run: 1) professionals, which includes those with some programming background, to be held at the Louisiana Technology Park July 23-28; and 2) LSU students, held on the LSU campus July 30-August 10.

Both training sessions will include entrepreneurial aspects as well as hands-on training. Participants will work in groups to create an app that will be deployed on their own iPhones, iPods, or iPads by the end of the camp.

"App development is not merely bridging traditional disciplines, but cutting across the entire globe.  Its influence affects traditional media, journalism, music, social communication, entertainment, and navigation, just to get started," said Jesse Allison, assistant professor of experimental music & digital media.  "With the explosion of mobile device usage, especially in developing countries, in a very short amount of time it will be difficult to find people whose lives are not directly affected by mobile computing, and more importantly by the apps we dream up for them."
