The mayor's office, Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Baton Rouge Area Foundation and LSU have formed the Baton Rouge Area Digital Industries Consortium, aimed at leveraging the digital entertainment industry into a greater economic driver for the region.

The goal is to attract more digital media business to Baton Rouge, building on the success of the Red Stick International Animation Festival and state tax credits that target digital media companies.

The consortium is actively recruiting filmmakers, digital renderings, video game publishers and other companies.

The consortium's CEO is Stacey Simmons, co-founder and director of the Red Stick festival, a project of the LSU Center for Computation and Technology, where Simmons is assistant director for special projects.

"Ten years from now, I want Baton Rouge to be a digital media Mecca," she says. "All these plans are in the works, and I think we are going to be very successful. Baton Rouge is going to be synonymous with digital media." --Steve Clark
