BATON ROUGE – Red Stick International Animation Festival will host the first American screening of “Around the World for Free,” Comet Entertainment’s newest animated feature, on Saturday, April 25 at 6 p.m. in the Manship Theatre.
“Around the World for Free” is a film about a group of best friends -- Mismatch, Sheepskin and Kebab – who try a new twist on “Around the World in 80 Days” when they attempt to make the same trip, in the same amount of time, for free. This film is for PG and PG-13 audiences only, as it contains content not suitable for young children.
Before the screening, participants will have the opportunity to win prizes, including a Blu-Ray disc player and an iPod Touch, by answering geography-related trivia questions. Seating is limited, so participants are encouraged to arrive early for a chance to win prizes and meet the filmmakers.
The film screening is free, but participants must register for a complimentary Red Pass, available at http://redstickfestival.org/redpass.asp , to attend.
The film’s executive producers, Comet Entertainment’s CEO, Raquel Benitez, and COO, Carmen Llanos, will be featured speakers as part of Red Stick’s American Animation Market series of lectures. Comet Entertainment has had a strong presence at Red Stick during the past two years.
In 2008, Comet Entertainment chose Red Stick as the location for the worldwide premier of “Santa vs. Claus,” the company’s 2008 animated feature film about a little girl who tries to save Christmas from commercialism.
“We have enjoyed being part of Red Stick and having the opportunity to watch it grow into America’s largest animation festival,” Benitez said. “It has become a premier animation venue, and we are happy to showcase our latest film for the 2009 festival participants.”
