Hailed as a collaboration between the arts and technology, an LSU graduate student’s innovation could change the way people tour exhibits and how they share information at conferences.
Exhibition Next is the brainchild of Santanu Majumdar, who spent his years as a graphic design graduate student at LSU developing a software program to simplify information use at conferences and exhibitions. LSU’s Center for Computation and Technology became involved, with computer science professor Brygg Ullmer assisting Majumdar’s work.
“Santanu and my graduate student, Rajesh Sankaran, put their heads together on this project, and Rajesh developed the (radio frequency identification) cards that Exhibition Next utilizes for the transfer of knowledge,” Ullmer said in an LSU news release.
Registering at an art museum or conference, patrons could obtain one of the cards and have pertinent information downloaded to it throughout their visit. The cards may be wiped clean later and reused, eliminating waste. The cards would cost about $1.25 and a card reader used by event organizers would cost about $65.
“The great thing about Exhibition Next is that it could be used for just about any type of event where people come together to exchange information,” Majumdar said.
