Baton Rouge --- The LSU Center for Computation and Technology, or CCT, and the AVATAR: Arts, Visualization, Technology and Advanced Research initiative will hold a film festival and pizza party on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in 338 Johnston Hall to recruit volunteers for SIGGRAPH: the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques.

SIGGRAPH is the premier conference to showcase new developments in digital media, and the 2009 conference will take place in New Orleans, Aug. 3-7, 2009, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. SIGGRAPH is recruiting student volunteers from Louisiana colleges and universities to work at the conference.

Students who volunteer will receive free admission to all parts of the conference and have the opportunity to experience SIGGRAPH while learning about the world of computer graphics, interactive systems and digital media.  Volunteering at the conference is a great opportunity for students to get involved with digital media initiatives and companies from around the world.

At the SIGGRAPH informational meeting, students will watch animation reels from the SIGGRAPH 2008 festival while enjoying free pizza.  Stephen David Beck, CCT interim director and a professor with the AVATAR initiative, and LSU Earth Scan Laboratory Computer Manager Alaric Haag, who has volunteered at SIGGRAPH for the past 15 years, will give students an overview of the conference.

Students who decide to volunteer with SIGGRAPH 2009 can attend a second meeting on Monday, Nov. 24, where a SIGGRAPH official will speak on the goals of the conference and the specific volunteer tasks.
