The Red Stick International Animation Festival will host a special screening of the acclaimed Israeli animated film “Waltz with Bashir.” This film won six Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Movie, and won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film. “Waltz with Bashir” was a nominee at the 2009 American Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film, and was a featured showing at the Cannes Film Festival.
“Waltz with Bashir” is an animated, documentary-style story of director Ari Folman’s journey around the world to interview old friends and fellow soldiers as he tries to reclaim his memories of the time he spent on an Israeli Army mission during the 1982 Lebanon War.
This film features graphic war scenes and nudity, and it is not suitable for children.
Red Stick will host a free screening of the film, with an opportunity to meet filmmakers and key creative personnel, on Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m. in the United Artists Citiplace Stadium Theater, 2610 Citiplace Dr. in Baton Rouge.
The screening is free, but adults who wish to attend must register for a complimentary festival Red Pass at http://redstickfestival.org/redpass.asp.
Theater seating is limited, and seats will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Following the showing of “Waltz with Bashir,” Red Stick Director Stacey Simmons, Ph.D., will host a question-and- answer session for the audience.
This film screening is part of events for the Red Stick International Animation Festival, the largest animation festival in the United States, which will take place April 22-25 in downtown Baton Rouge’s Arts District.
LSU’s Center for Computation & Technology sponsors the festival, in partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President’s Office, Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and Louisiana Economic Development.
